Michigan Congressional Election 2012 Political Courage Test

Pro-choice Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
No Do you support United States' combat operations in Afghanistan?
Yes Do you support a timetable for withdrawal from Afghanistan?

Indicate which proposals you support (if any) for balancing the federal budget. In order to balance the budget,

Yes do you support reducing defense spending?
Yes do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket?
No do you support reducing Medicaid spending?
No do you support reducing Medicare spending?
No Is balancing the budget a legislative priority?
I support a progressive tax structure like the one set forth in The People's Budget of 2012.
Yes Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
I support public funding of our elections and believe Citizens United needs to be overturned by legislation which sets limits and sources of funding.
No Do you support capital punishment for certain crimes?
I have had a family member who was murdered. I did not support the death penalty for the individual that committed the crime. (This crime did take place in a state that condoned capital punishment.)
Yes Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes Do you support providing tax incentives to businesses for the purpose of job creation?
Yes Do you support spending on infrastructure projects for the purpose of job creation?
Yes Do you support the temporary extension of unemployment benefits?
Yes Do you support the 2010 temporary extension of tax relief?
The only way I support tax incentives for businesses is if and only if they employ within the United States. We need to stop paying companies to outsource jobs, and put our focus on fair trade instead of free trade.
Yes Do you support requiring states to implement education reforms in order to be eligible for competitive federal grants?
No Do you support reducing restrictions on offshore energy production?
I support INCREASING regulations on offshore drilling.
Yes Do you believe that human activity is contributing to climate change?
Yes Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions?
Yes Do you support restrictions on the purchase and possession of guns?
You have the right to bear arms, but if you cannot wait at least 48 hours for a weapon, you probably should not have one.
No Do you support repealing the 2010 Affordable Care Act?
Yes Should individuals be required to purchase health insurance, as mandated in the 2010 Affordable Care Act?
I support the ACA even though it was not my first choice. I support a universal single payer system.
Yes Do you support requiring illegal immigrants to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship?
Yes Do you support allowing illegal immigrants, who were brought to the United States as minors, to pursue citizenship without returning to their country of origin?
No Do you support the enforcement of federal immigration law by state and local police?
I support a full and comprehensive immigration reform plan, which must include a path for citizenship to all that qualify. I do not support the state or local agencies enforcing federal law because we have already seen an abuse of power by local agencies in correlation with this issue. Our country's history is rife with civil rights violations of this sort, and it makes no sense to open another door for that to happen again.
Yes Do you support same-sex marriage?
No Do you support targeting suspected terrorists outside of official theaters of conflict?
No Should the U.S use military force in order to prevent Iran from possessing a nuclear weapon?
No Do you support allowing individuals to divert a portion of their Social Security taxes into personal retirement accounts?
I do not support the privatization of Social Security in any way, shape, or form.

My main priority is job creation. We need to start building in America again instead of outsourcing our economy. Next, we need to revitalize our public education system, making our education system, K-University, affordable and accessible. We also need to redevelop our skilled-trades education programs - I say redevelop because we don't have them anymore. Finally, we need to take care of our environment. We need to make sure hydro-fracturing is outlawed, and the restore the regulations that were taken out of the Clean Water Act.
